The Lady of Seacliff Manor: Charlotte Vale was a former B-movie actress whose career had taken her through the less glamorous corners of Hollywood, appearing in low-budget thrillers, horror films, and other modest productions. Though she never achieved major stardom, Charlotte enjoyed her years in front of the camera and retained the poise, glamour, and flair for dramatics that had served her well as an actress.
Charlotte had been married to Matthew Wheland, with whom she had a daughter, Phoebe. Matthew’s death in a plane crash left a lasting impact on the family, particularly Phoebe, whose continuing obsession with the tragedy became a source of tension between mother and daughter.
Charlotte eventually found stability with Julian, a respected psychiatrist whose professional standing complemented the comfortable life she had built after leaving acting behind. She and Phoebe moved into Julian’s home known as Seacliff Manor, an imposing estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara.
As Phoebe grew increasingly determined to uncover answers about her father’s final moments, Charlotte struggled to understand her daughter’s inability to leave the tragedy behind. Her concerns were genuine, but her desire to protect Phoebe sometimes placed them at odds, particularly when the young woman began questioning the people closest to her.
Still possessing the elegance and theatrical instincts of her Hollywood days, Charlotte was accustomed to maintaining a carefully composed appearance even when circumstances became difficult. But with Phoebe’s return to Santa Barbara threatening to reopen old wounds, Charlotte found that some family dramas were far more complicated than anything she had ever performed on screen.
