A Friend Indeed: Jack Fallmont was a trusted friend and longtime business associate of James Blackthorne. The two men moved within the same powerful Hollywood and political circles, and James valued Jack as someone he could rely upon both personally and professionally. Jack also belonged to one of the region’s most politically connected families and was the uncle of Senator Timothy Fallmont.
Through Timothy, the Fallmont name became entangled with the Blackthornes when the senator threatened to block the Blackthorne-Reynolds natural-gas pipeline over environmental concerns. The dispute became even more personal after Stormy Blackthorne’s affair with Timothy’s wife, Samantha, was exposed, placing the Fallmont family at the center of another public scandal.
Jack was later drawn into a far more dangerous controversy following the murder of his wife Adrienne. Adrienne had been involved with Congressman Seth Walker and the supposedly legitimate oil company Stratotech, which was secretly being used to conceal an illegal arms-smuggling operation. After she was found strangled with her own pantyhose, suspicion quickly fell upon Jack, making the murder appear to be a violent crime rooted within the Fallmont family.
The evidence soon suggested that Adrienne’s death was connected not to a private family dispute, but to the secrets she had uncovered about Stratotech. Before her murder, she arranged for a map of Costa Mesa to be sent to Renee DeWitt with instructions that it be delivered to Kenny if anything happened to her. The map helped expose the truth about the supposed oil field and indicated that Adrienne had anticipated being silenced.
Jack’s status as the prime suspect weakened as investigators turned their attention to Stratotech geologist Logan Mackenzie, who hinted that Adrienne had threatened to expose the operation. Logan was then killed in a suspicious automobile crash after demanding a greater share of the profits. The widening trail of bodies made it increasingly clear that Jack had been caught in a conspiracy far larger than the Fallmont family.
Brett Armstrong eventually discovered surveillance footage from Adrienne’s home showing Seth entering and leaving near the time of her murder. The recording effectively cleared Jack while confirming that Adrienne had been killed because she knew too much about Seth’s criminal enterprise. Brett used the evidence to blackmail Seth rather than immediately reveal the truth, allowing suspicion to hang over Jack longer than it should have.
Although he was cleared of Adrienne’s murder, the accusation permanently altered his life. In the aftermath, Jack left Los Angeles and returned to his hometown of Denver, putting both the scandal and the dangerous world surrounding the Blackthornes behind him.
