The Twin Who Made People Disappear: Joba Branigan was the twin brother of Jeff Branigan, but where Jeff moved through the younger Hollywood party scene with reckless bravado, Joba carried a more dangerous reputation. Connected to the same drug world that surrounded Jeff, Summer Solomon, Hunt Roberts, and Sierra Merteuil, Joba represented the part of that scene that could not be dismissed as youthful excess.

Jeff’s death at Magnum Rainer’s birthday party intensified the violence already circling Benji Rydell and Sierra. After Sierra was drugged and Jeff was struck and killed by a car during his confrontation with Benji, the younger social circle became even more unstable. Joba remained connected to the drugs and threats beneath that tragedy, giving others a reason to fear what might happen next.

Renee Merteuil, furious over Sierra’s addiction and convinced that Hunt Roberts had helped lead her daughter into drugs, encouraged Benji to make Hunt pay. Benji responded by framing Hunt as an informant who had betrayed Joba. The accusation was enough. Once Joba believed Hunt had turned on him, Hunt disappeared and was never seen again.
