The Mobster Who Wanted to Be Loved: Michael “Mickey” Donovan was the firstborn son of crime boss Carlo Bravetti and Deirdre Donovan. Raised outside the Bravetti family and brought into it only after Carlo discovered the truth of his parentage, Mickey learned early that acceptance came with conditions. Unlike his younger half-brother Nico, who had been raised as Carlo’s heir, Mickey built his own power through intimidation, loyalty, and an expanding criminal network.
Operating from his yacht in Marina del Rey, Mickey surrounded himself with trusted enforcers Bruno and Dennis while extending the Bravettis’ influence throughout Los Angeles. His operations included drug trafficking, extortion, and money laundering disguised through legitimate businesses and Hollywood productions.
Mickey infiltrated Rydell Productions by blackmailing CEO Brett Armstrong over a buried sexual-misconduct scandal. Using the shell company Carrick Bay Consulting and fraudulent film projects, he forced Brett to move millions of dollars through studio accounts. When Brett resisted, Mickey threatened his daughter Violet and made it clear that disobedience would have consequences.
The operation began collapsing after Jordan Rydell discovered suspicious transactions and stripped Brett of financial authority. Unable to move money connected to an approaching drug shipment, Mickey ordered Brett to restore his access. When Jordan refused to cooperate, Mickey authorized an attempt on his life.
Jordan, Brett, and James Blackthorne turned the scheme against him by arranging a trap at Rydell Productions. Bruno and Dennis opened fire on what appeared to be Jordan, only to discover they had shot a realistic stunt dummy while hidden cameras recorded the attack. Faced with evidence that could destroy him, Mickey abandoned the operation rather than risk losing Suzanne Rogers permanently.
Suzanne had become the unexpected emotional center of Mickey’s life. Although nearly everyone around her warned that he was dangerous, Mickey treated her with tenderness and allowed her to see a vulnerable side he rarely revealed. Their relationship ended after Suzanne witnessed Bruno and Dennis brutally attacking a studio executive while Mickey calmly watched.
Mickey remained unable to let her go. After Suzanne accidentally killed Lara Devon in self-defense, he arrived at her condominium and immediately took control. He cleaned the scene, removed the evidence, concealed the damage, and buried Lara beneath fresh concrete at an Arts District construction site.
Unknown to Suzanne, Lara’s phone had recorded part of the attack and contained evidence proving that the shooting had been self-defense. Mickey hid the phone inside his private safe rather than reveal it, ensuring that Suzanne would remain dependent upon him. Traumatized and convinced he was the only person protecting her, she allowed Mickey to move into her home.
