Love by Deception: Quinn was an old high-school flame of Eddie’s who returned to his life at a particularly vulnerable time in his relationship with Miranda. Miranda was still struggling with the scar left by the earthquake and had only recently begun to believe that Eddie’s feelings for her had not changed. Seeing him reconnect with Quinn immediately revived her insecurities and made her suspicious of the other woman’s intentions.
Quinn soon approached Eddie with alarming news: her younger brother, Magnum, had disappeared from Storm Lake, a summer camp in the mountains where he worked as a counselor. Appealing to Eddie’s instincts as both a private investigator and someone who had once cared for her, Quinn persuaded him to help search for Magnum. Eddie and Quinn traveled into the wilderness together, while an uneasy Miranda insisted on accompanying them. After spraining her ankle, Miranda was forced to remain behind with the campers as Eddie and Quinn continued the search alone.
The disappearance was actually an elaborate ruse devised by Quinn and Magnum. After their parents separated, their mother had been left burdened with debt and little financial security. Knowing that Victor Distefano had left Eddie a vast fortune, Quinn decided that rekindling their relationship—and eventually marrying him—could solve their financial problems. Magnum agreed to pretend he was missing, giving Quinn an opportunity to isolate Eddie in the mountains and revive their old attraction.
The scheme unraveled when Stormy encountered a drunken Magnum at a party in L.A. Magnum confessed that he had never been missing and revealed Quinn’s true plan. Once Miranda learned the truth, the campers helped her reach the remote cabin where Quinn claimed Magnum had last been seen. Miranda arrived just as Quinn was attempting to seduce Eddie.
Quinn’s plan failed when Eddie rejected her advances and made it clear that he loved Miranda. Exposed as both a liar and an opportunist, Quinn left, while Eddie’s refusal to betray Miranda helped restore some of the trust her insecurities had threatened.
