The Actor Who Couldn’t Outrun His Secrets: Riley came to Los Angeles with his wife, Natalie, as the two struggled to build acting careers together. While both dreamed of success, financial pressure and repeated rejection placed increasing strain on their marriage.

Desperate to earn money, Riley secretly joined the Noir Companions escort app and used the income to help supplement his income working as a valet driver at the Wilshire Country Club. After a violent encounter with one of his client’s husbands, he deleted the app and tried to leave that part of his life behind. Kelly Kahoano later discovered Riley and signed him with the Miranda Blackthorne Agency, giving his acting career the opportunity it had long lacked.

As Riley’s fortunes improved, Natalie became increasingly frustrated by her own stalled ambitions. Their marriage deteriorated further after Natalie grew close to Riley’s best friend, Steve. At an M.B.A. party, Steve publicly exposed both their affair and Riley’s secret past as an escort.

The scandal quickly went viral. Silverdale Telepictures fired Riley from the television movie Marigold Lane, citing its supposed family-values policy, and his career appeared to be over just as it had begun. Riley was devastated by both the collapse of his marriage and the humiliation surrounding his private life.

His career recovered when Stormy Blackthorne and Keaton Hartley cast him as the young Nathan Blackthorne in the biopic American Star. The role offered Riley a chance to prove that he was more than the scandal attached to his name and positioned him for a new chapter in Hollywood.

After leaving Steve, Natalie admitted that she had never completely stopped loving Riley. Even so, she believed too much damage had been done for them to reconcile and returned to Minnesota, leaving him a farewell letter.

Riley then developed a flirtation with Kelly’s half-sister, Phoebe Wheland. They went on a date and slept together, but Phoebe left abruptly the next morning after receiving a message from Keaton, leaving Riley confused by the sudden change in her behavior.

Soon afterward, one of Riley’s former escort clients arrived with a newborn and claimed he was the father. A DNA test confirmed the connection. Riley unexpectedly embraced the possibility of fatherhood and took the baby home, unaware that a hospital identification error during the wildfire evacuation had caused the infant to be switched with Stormy and Jane’s daughter.
