His most effective weapon was the old Nico Bravetti case. As questions resurfaced about whether Nico had truly murdered Patty Ruiz, Vaughan used the scandal to undermine Miranda’s credibility. He helped expose Heather Rydell’s recorded doubts about the conviction, intensifying public scrutiny of the five witnesses and damaging the reputation of M.B.A. at the worst possible moment.

Vaughan also inserted himself into the careers of younger performers, including Iris Knox, whose unstable sister Sadie repeatedly tried to manipulate opportunities for her. Like Miranda, Vaughan saw talent as leverage, but he often appeared more interested in advantage than loyalty.
